Why Training Matters
Wild Earth Wisdom Camps is a rich, multi-layered curriculum that weaves together ancient wisdom traditions, modern adventure education, earth science, personal coaching, and ceremonial facilitation—skills most camp leaders have never had to combine before, let alone teach. Some of the interpersonal development work and nature metaphors will be new even to experienced Guides. That's why we built training directly into our licensing packages, at increasing levels of depth.
Because of the multi-layered curriculum weaving nature adventure, earth science, social-emotional learning, Guides for Wild Earth Wisdom Camps must necessarily have deep experience or extensive training in order to be successful. Add in the ceremonial and ritual experience and practices and the ideal Guides for these camps can be rare to find… But they can be trained! This is why we have built an in-depth Guide Training program to ensure camps are successful from Day 1.
Our immersive training, especially the social/emotional tools and ritual/ceremonies of camp, give Guides confidence and sensitivity. Along the way, they acquire these skills themselves, making them more well-rounded and mature in their own abilities as a ‘way shower’. Over the years, campers often become assistant guides and then lead guides. It’s part of growing a nature-connected community.
And it all rests on a foundation of good, extensive training. Our experience in running these camps has shown us that the most successful Guides are the ones who have a love of nature, the teaching skills, AND our training.
NOTE: For specialized nature activities, like kayaking, rock climbing, ropes course, etc., we recommend using licensed, certified outfitters who you’ll work closely with in guiding the curriculum. They often bring new insights and expertise into the program and help us deepen our offerings.
