The Four Pillars Framework
Every activity, challenge, and moment at camp intentionally builds these four interconnected pillars:
STRENGTH
Inner strength, knowing your place in nature, standing in your truth.
COURAGE
Doing hard things, taking appropriate risks, speaking up.
CONFIDENCE
Earned through genuine accomplishment. Trusting yourself.
RESILIENCE
Bouncing back from challenge, adapting like water around rocks.
These pillars stand in a circle of INTEGRITY—alignment between values and actions.

Testimonials
"As a teacher of 30 years... I do not say this lightly: this camp is one of the most extraordinary learning environments I have ever witnessed. I saw the sparkle in their eyes at the end of each day—exhausted, sun-kissed, muddy, proud. I saw them return home taller somehow, steadier in themselves."
"I loved working with the structure of the Caterpillar Girls Camp – Earth, Air, Water, Fire, Spirit. It was so easy to find the through-line for the week as each day built on the previous days. As a facilitator, I learned so much about weaving the learning and was inspired to tell an adventure story throughout camp – one I made up spontaneously as the girls proceeded through the elements, activities, adventures and challenges. We all evolved together and the result was one of my favorite guiding experiences ever!"
"I started going to Chrysalis camp as an 11-year-old and became a Junior Counselor at age 16 because I simply LOVED everything I learned. It was even more impactful as I guided younger girls through the maze of adolescence using the tools, relationships with nature, and personal growth I had learned and received from the camp."

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our youth programs, daily routines, safety, and gear.
Wild Earth Wisdom provides four signature camp programs tailored by developmental stage and gender: Caterpillar Girls Nature Camp, Earth Keeper Explorers, Chrysalis Circle for Young Women, and Earth Keeper Way for Young Men. Early youth programs (ages 7–10) are structured as 5-day day camps emphasizing sensory expansion, nature crafts, and elemental play. Adolescent programs (ages 11–17) are 6-day intensive wilderness immersions that blend multi-element adventures—such as whitewater rafting and rock climbing—with council circles and an overnight rite-of-passage ceremony. All four curricula can also be adapted into fully residential overnight experiences.
Caterpillar Girls Nature Camp is a 5-day day camp (Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM) that introduces young girls to the natural world through hands-on exploration of the Five Elements. Over the course of the week, girls journey through Earth (sensory tracking, sit spots, nature journaling), Air (breathwork, birdsong, finding their voice), Water (stream ecology and understanding emotions), Fire (flint-and-steel fire building and courage games), and Spirit (crafting personal talismans and celebration council). The program builds early bodily confidence, sensory awareness, and cooperative peer bonds.
Earth Keeper Explorers is a 5-day day camp (Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM) tailored to boys’ natural physical energy, curiosity, and appetite for hands-on challenge. The curriculum blends primitive outdoor skills—including debris shelter construction, tracking, and flint fire craft—with daily brotherhood circles. Boys learn to channel their physical energy constructively, practice active listening, resolve frustrations without aggression, and discover self-soothing tools rooted in the outdoors.
Chrysalis Circle is an intensive 6-day empowerment journey designed to dismantle digital anxiety and build unshakeable self-worth, culminating in an overnight rite-of-passage ceremony. Teen girls engage in real-world outdoor trials—including whitewater river navigation, vertical rock climbing pitches, primitive fire-making, and solitary nature vigils. Supported by daily Council Circles, participants confront self-limiting beliefs, set healthy personal boundaries, celebrate body capability over appearance, and step into young womanhood with authentic pride.
Earth Keeper Way is a 6-day wilderness passage designed to initiate boys into mature, responsible young manhood through real outdoor challenge and grounded brotherhood. Guided by experienced male mentors, boys navigate river rapids, climb natural crags, build wilderness shelters, and practice fire-by-friction. The journey culminates in a Friday overnight solo fire vigil, storytelling, ancestral drumming, and an initiation ceremony where each young man identifies his core values, personal strengths, and accountability to his community.
Daily schedules balance clear structure with open-ended natural exploration from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. A standard day begins with a Morning Welcome Council featuring gratitude shares, body movement, and introduction to the day’s elemental theme. The morning continues with hands-on wilderness challenges, followed by a mindful, screen-free picnic lunch. Afternoons include dedicated "sit spot" solo reflection, cooperative team challenges, and a closing Harvest Council where campers share insights and set intentions for home.
Campers need a durable outdoor daypack with weather-appropriate clothing layers (waterproof shell, insulating fleece), sturdy hiking shoes, a sun hat, natural sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle (minimum 1 litre). Families receive a comprehensive gear checklist 30 days before camp. All specialized technical gear (harnesses, climbing helmets, ropes, rafts, PFDs) is provided, and host locations maintain gear-lending libraries to ensure financial limitations never prevent a child from participating. To ensure a complete neurological reset, personal electronic devices and phones are strictly prohibited.
Physical safety is maintained through certified wilderness leaders, daily gear audits, conservative environmental risk thresholds, and comprehensive Wilderness Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) with satellite communication. Emotional safety is upheld through our strict Council Agreements: speaking from the heart, listening without interruption, honoring confidentiality, and maintaining zero tolerance for teasing or social exclusion. Guides are trained in trauma-informed leadership, sensory integration, and gentle emotional de-escalation.
Camp directors monitor regional weather radar, lightning detection, and Air Quality Indices (AQI) continuously. Every outdoor base maintains pre-designated natural shelters, canvas tipis, or indoor backup facilities within rapid walking distance. In the event of lightning or sudden storms, standard protocols mandate an immediate 30-minute shelter pause, transitioning youth to covered pavilions or forest tipis for storytelling, shelter games, and indoor crafts until conditions clear.
Yes, all WEWC curricula are designed to adapt to diverse local ecologies, from alpine peaks and mixed woodlands to coastal shores and municipal open spaces. If local waterways lack whitewater, programs easily swap in flatwater canoeing, sea kayaking, paddleboarding, or creek exploration. Where vertical rock crags are unavailable, teams utilize bouldering courses, low-ropes challenge elements, or natural timber obstacles. Plant lore and tracking modules are always tailored to local native flora and fauna.
Lead Guides are experienced outdoor educators certified in Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) alongside adult and pediatric CPR. In addition to standard physical safety certifications, all guides must complete the proprietary Wild Earth Wisdom Guide Academy. This training covers council facilitation, sacred ceremony stewardship, child developmental psychology, risk management, and the science of nature-based somatic grounding.
