A six night outback journey in communion with land and soul

Mutawintji and Broken Hill
Outback NSW
April 12 - 18, 2018

with Jane Elworthy and Jacqui Bushell

Mutawintji is the intersection of many dreaming tracks. This ancient sacred site opens the space for deep soul communion with the land, and a greater knowing of our soul’s purpose. Land and self merge as one under this big sky – ancient gorges, river red gums and Aboriginal rock paintings offer us direct contact with the spirit of this land, and in return reflect back to us our connection with all that is.

During this journey to remember your wild soul nature there will be workshops, meditations and experiences with Jane Elworthy and Jacqui Bushell. There will also be time to rest, dream and renew in the clear desert light.

soulsong-riverbed-tree-webMutawintji National Park: the tribal area of the Malyankapa and Pandijikali people who utisilsed this land of striking rock formations for it's natural waterholes and abundance of natural food for thousands of years. It has long been a place for initiations, rainmaking and other ceremonies. There are many accessible examples of rock painting and hand stencils. The ranges here are ancient and beautiful, the eroded remains of a 400 million year old seabed of sedimentary rock in fiery reds, brown and gold colouring. The deep gorges and sandy river beds are lined with huge river red gums.

We will be camping overnight at Mutawintji to experience the deep stillness and vast sky of this sacred land; meditating, walking, connecting.

During this retreat we will be touching our own wild nature hands--mutawint-weband limitless psyche in this powerful landscape.

Experience solo and group exercises, soul work with nature, meditations, journey work, walking the river beds, sacred story, experiencing the dreaming body of self and land, music and a performance evening, movement and qi gong, sunset meditations, and inviting us to experience profound connection with the deep earth body and soul communion.

There will also be a delicious dinner out at the quirky Palace hotel where 'Priscilla' was filmed. The food and decor are wonderful!

The fabulous Mulberry Vale Bush Retreat on the edge of the desert at Broken Hill will be our base while in this iconic outback town with its rich arts, mining and film history. Delicious home cooked meals are included. Each spacious cabin will sleep two people, (with separate bedrooms) and has a small lounge area and kitchen. There is also a group kitchen and dining area with several outside areas for meditation and gatherings. Single supplement is also available.

At Mutawintji, individual tents are provided for each person or you can bring your own. Compost toilets are available at the camp site as are solar showers, depending on water supply.

soulsong-dirt-road-webGetting there: Broken Hill is approximately 1100km from Sydney. There are several options for getting out there:
Driving - head west out through the Blue Mountains and Orange, staying at Nyngan for the night (we recommend the Riverside Caravan Park, say hello to the camels and goats!)

Flying - Rex Regional Express Airlines. Plan to stay an extra few days, if possible to explore the many galleries and amazing sights of this iconic Heritage listed Broken Hill. Flights generally cost $294 each way. There are three flights daily leaving Sydney for Broken Hill via Dubbo (3 hours), however the early bird prices sell out very quickly.

Train - the Indian Pacific departs Sydney on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2.55pm arrive Broken hill at 6.30am the next morning. It leaves Broken Hill on Tuesdays and Fridays. The cost varies depending on the travel class you choose. There is also a daily train to Dubbo with a bus connection to Broken Hill, leaving Sydney 0715 and arriving 2245.

Other Options - you might like to fly to Adelaide hire a car and drive up to Broken Hill via the beautiful hills area and Clare Valley.

You will need to bring along comfortable hiking shoes as we will be walking on rocks and in sandy places. The level of strenuous activity varies, and is optional. We will be climbing over rock paths at Mutawintji and along river beds for several hours.  While these paths are not difficult, they do involve some clambering upwards. Please contact us if you would like further information about this walk.
